BIOGRAPHY
OFFICIAL IYENGAR CERTIFIED YOGA TEACHER
I am Barbie Abeles, Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher.
I’ve practiced Yoga for 20 years.
Almost 10 years ago I started traveling to India every year. I spent many months studying with the Iyengar Family in Pune, India.
In 2019 the Iyengar family took me under their tutelage and I moved to Pune for a year, to study directly under them and the rest of the RIMYI Institute teachers.
I am immensely grateful to all my teachers, but especially to the Iyengar family for this opportunity and their tremendous generosity.
Spending almost a year at RIMYI was an intense experience. It was a year’s retreat in order to be immersed in this subject that I love deeply.
I would spend the entire day inside the Institute, 6 days a week. I was able to dedicate many hours a day to deepen my self-practice and my studies, as well as assisting the Institute teachers during their classes. Also, for some years I have been assisting in the therapy classes at the Institute in Pune.
In Buenos Aires I’ve studied with Delfina Mendonça for 8 years. Delfina’s support and encouragement have been essential in my journey in Yoga and I am very grateful to her.
For 7 years I have also been doing live simultaneous interpreting for Senior Iyengar Yoga teachers who come to teach in Argentina as well as in Pune. I have translated for the entire Iyengar family: Geeta Iyengar, Prashant Iyengar, Sunita Iyengar and Abhijata Iyengar; as well as for RIMYI Institute teachers: Raya Uma Datta and Dr. Nidmarti Rajlaxmi Sudhirkumar and Sushama Chitale. I’ve also translated for other Senior Iyengar Yoga teachers from India as well as other countries: Zubin Zarthoshtimanesh, Jawahar Bangera, Uday Bhosale, H.S. Arun, Lois Steinberg, Sricharan Faeq Biria, Corine Biria, Gabriella Giubilaro, David Meloni, Carrie Owerko and Paul Cabanis.
